3 Ways to Get Away Without Having to Go Away

Your Home is your Playground.

Everybody’s working for the weekend! So once it rolls around, it’s important to take some time to de-stress and do the things you want to do. And, guess what! You don’t have to travel to enjoy a weekend getaway. These are three things you can do tonight to get away, right in your own home:

Create a Theme for the Night

Creating a theme instantly makes your night more exciting. Think about what you’re in the mood to do, and you can base everything from your food to your activities around this theme.

You can visit a tropical island with refreshments as simple as mango coolers and pineapple skewers. Set the mood with some gentle surf on you iPod and set a fan or two for a tropical breeze.

Did you grow up in the 90s? Invite a few “Friends” from the past over, as you binge on some Must See TV. Eat your favorite 90s snacks (Rice Krispies Treats, anyone?).

With a themed night in, you’ll never go wrong because the possibilities are as endless as your imagination.

Bonus Tips: Rearrange the room to change your familiar space into something thematic and new and have a few food trays on hand to make eating and transporting food easy and mess free.

T
urn Your Bathroom Into a Spa

It’s so simple you’ll wonder why you’ve never done it before. First, make sure your bathroom is free of clutter. Be sure to dispose of empty containers, trash, etc. — all the things that stand in the way of relaxation. Now, store all your toiletries out of sight. Then, close your window shades and light lavender, vanilla, or jasmine-scented candles. These are the perfect scents for providing a warm and soothing ambience to your bathroom.

Finally, prepare to soak in your bathtub by running warm water and adding bath salts or bubble bath soaps. Then, relax in your tub for as long as you desire, and let the week’s stresses slip away. Oh, and be sure to have a large, soft towel or robe nearby so your comfort can continue even as you rise from your bath.

Bonus Tip: By playing a collection of calming music (via Spotify or Pandora) you can create the ultimate relaxing setting so you can fully indulge yourself in your bathroom spa.

Live it Up in Your Living Room

If you’re down for some endless fun, bust out the Jenga, Taboo, Scrabble, or Uno. You can even indulge in some fun crossword puzzles or grown-up coloring books. Once you’re all gamed out, belt out some tunes with karaoke (no bar required!). Simply download the free Karaoke Anywhere app on your iPhone or Android phone, connect your phone to your TV, and you’re ready to croon your favorite tunes.

After you’ve sung your heart out, end the night with a marathon of your favorite shows or movies on Netflix, Hulu, or from your personal collection. Your living room’s for living. Live large!

Bonus Tip: Keep blankets nearby to stay comfortable during your show/movie marathon. If you end up falling asleep in front of your TV, that’s OK! You know you’ve gotten the most out of your great night in!
